BIOTOPIA - To imitate nature - is my degree project and consists of two handknotted carpets (also see Mikrotopia) from a utopia about future sustainable textile design and craft.
The textile industry is a heavy polluting industry and materials for carpet production gives an extra impact on the environment. By imitating nature we can work with design in a sustainable way. Wool- and nettle yarn reduces the use of chemicals in cultivation and indoor environment. I have been working with textile materials to create sustainable carpets in such a way the material and design enhance each other. Utopia tells a story about my own Utopia about future sustainable textile design where nature, high technology, animals, robots and humans live in symbiosis! Handknotted with ecological nettleyarn from Nepal and New Zealand wool.
