BIOTOPIA - To imitate nature - is my degree project and consists of two handknotted carpets (also see Mikrotopia) from a utopia about future sustainable textile design and craft. The textile industry is a heavy polluting industry and materials for carpet production gives an extra impact on the environment. By imitating nature we can work with design in a sustainable way. Wool- and nettle yarn reduces the use of chemicals in cultivation and indoor environment. I have been working with textile materials to create sustainable carpets in such a way the material and design enhance each other. Utopia tells a story about my own Utopia about future sustainable textile design where nature, high technology, animals, robots and humans live in symbiosis!
